Scalp is the soft tissue covering the vault of the skull .
Scalp consists of five layers .

a.) Two frontal bellies
b.) Two occipital bellies

            Loose areolar tissue

This is the most important layer of scalp . It serves as a natural plane of cleavage during Craniotomy.
This layer is traversed by emissary veins.
                   Pericranium

It is the hardest layer formed by periosteum of bones of vault of skull.
