Who Are We?
Hey everyone, welcome to dental Lightners!
When we used to be in our first year, we used to find it very difficult to study those big, fat books 😕. And obviously we couldn't go throw the entire book a day prior exam.
But unlike you guys we didn't had any other choice . We used to mug up the whole text and vomit the next day .
But you guys don't have to worry about it now 😁 .
We have created this blog solely with the purpose of helping all those dental students who are going through same problems as we were going through in our first year!
Here we provide concise , easy to understand ( even if you study at the the last moment) notes of different subjects!
Now your next and most obvious question would be
Why should we study your notes? Are they reliable?
We totally understand your concern and it's good to know the source from where you are learning.
Guys, we are students of one of the top most dental college of India,Christian Dental College, Ludhiana.
These notes are made from your standard textbooks.
To know their credibility you can compare them with your textbooks! It's always good to be sure ( "smiles")
Today's Topic
Today we will be sharing with you the notes of Cementum.
Cementum is the mineralised dental tissue covering the anatomic roots of human teeth. It begins at the cervical portion of the tooth at cementoenamel junction and continues to the apex.
It furnishes a medium for the attachment of collagen fibres that bind tooth to the surrounding structures.
It is a specialized connective tissue that shares some physical , chemical and structural characteristics with compact bone .
Major differences between bone and cementum .
1. Unlike bone , Cementum is avascular and noninnervated.
2. In bone everything is secreted by osteoblasts but in cementum there are parts that do not contain cementoblasts .
3. The lacunae of osteocytes are oval in shape where as that of cementocytes varies from being ovoid or tubular .
Important point to keep in mind while studying cementum.
Even though we have tried to cover every aspect of this chapter in these notes we would suggest you that you thoroughly go through the tables of comparison drawn in your textbook ''ORBANS for oral histology"
for better understanding and to score good grades in exams .
Here are your notes :-
